Carl Dowse

I'm currently employed full-time at a business college in Germany, where I'm responsible for business-related English courses on the undergraduate programmes. Before this, I had a similar position in Milan, Italy. Some years ago I founded and ran my own business – a British Council accredited private language school based in England – so I've also had some experience of running a company. And I also train corporate clients, usually on a one-to-one basis, when invited to so. Since 2006, I've been involved in the use of educational technology in language teaching. I've taken part, both as participant and moderator, in a number of training programmes which have been both classroom related and directed towards teaching online. In 2009, I co-authored the online Cert IBET course offered by The Consultants-E. Moderating this course and working with teachers from all over the world has been a constant source of inspiration. I've developed many courses using a wide variety of online tools (e.g. SmartBuilder, LearnDash, Moodle, WordPress, Google Sites, wikis and blogs) for both corporate and higher education settings. I've worked for the British Council on a freelance basis developing online courses aimed at helping non-native speaker English teachers around the world improve both their English and their teaching skills From 2009 to 2012, I was the Web Coordinator on the IATEFL BESIG Committee with overall responsibility for the Special Interest Group's online presence. Apart from its website, which I helped design and build, I set up and managed a wide range of social media and introduced regular online professional development workshops which have become an integral part of the SIG's contribution to the teaching community. In addition to my work as a business communication and teacher trainer, I recently worked as an advisor for the German publisher Cornelsen on a new edition of the course book Career Express B2.
